The weather in the last week has been so mixed, the weekend was nice for golf but it has changed in the last day or so. Hopefully, it’s not too long before we all return to the course with some lovely spring weather to look forward to.
In line with our continuous course improvements, great work has been undertaken by Ann Cribeen to project lead and revamp the flower beds at the entrance to the course. This can be seen from the photographs below and when growth commences the display of flowers will be uplifting to us all.
Additional floral improvements are also planned for the entrance area to the club complex, together with some new welcome signage. We would also like to thank Alice Cronin who planted wild seed flowers on the course close to Kilcock Golf Club sign to the left of the fairway / rough on the 6th hole.
As we have continued uncertainty it has been decided on a one-off basis to have a virtual drive in which members will be able to view online and on social media. More details on this to follow.
These particular projects in the main are been financed by the Ladies section of the Golf Club. We do hope that everyone is keeping safe and well.

As most of us have a bit more time on our hands, you might enjoy these quotes from famous people.
“Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening – and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented.” — Arnold Palmer
“No other game combines the wonder of nature with the discipline of sport in such carefully planned ways. A great golf course both frees and challenges a golfer’s mind.” — Tom Watson
“Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots, good breaks from bad shots – but you have to play where it lies.” — Bobby Jones
“Happiness is a long walk with a putter” — Greg Norman

After another week of progress, however slowly, towards a return to golf on our great course, we hope that our weekly ‘hello’ finds all members, staff, and families safe and well.
We want to say a most sincere thanks to members and staff for the compliance and care shown since the pandemic began to impact our club, almost a year ago. The high degree of adhering to rules and being considerate towards each other has largely kept us safe in the club. It’s likely, on re-opening, that some restrictions will be required but our club has shown how we can keep safe and will do so again.
All three committees of the club are continuing with their regular meetings (by Zoom), planning for re-opening and the new golf year. Thanks for all membership renewals – very encouraging and positive.
Stay safe
Tommy & Eileen
In the second week of official Spring, we hope our “Captains’ Check-In” finds all members, staff, and their families safe and well.
In the midst of this pandemic, many now notice things often not noticed before. We see generosity, kindness, dedication, loyalty, sharing. To see in action such qualities can give a great uplift and encouragement. Even better, if we can, on occasions, be the ones showing these qualities in our actions. As golfers we can – and do – look forward to the resumption of golf. What a joy that will be.
The club’s Honorary Treasurer reports that there has been an encouraging daily pattern of membership renewals right since 29 December, the day the renewal invoices were sent out. Indeed, 13 members renewed on one of the recent days. The Treasurer encourages all members to complete their membership renewal by the end of the month.
A game of golf followed by a lovely meal in our refurbished restaurant will banish most Covid-19 memories!!!
Tommy & Eileen
Wherever each of us can receive or give, hope, encouragement, friendship, in these pandemic times we should gladly accept and gladly give.
We are checking in to say hello to all members and staff and their families and to hope that all is well. Restrictions are difficult but they have a purpose – to bring this virus under control and bring back as much safety as is possible to everyday life. Let’s all keep up our resolve to really protect ourselves, our families, and all with whom we may come in contact.
The fairways and greens of our lovely members’ owned club will be so sweet when we return to them.
Warmest Regards
Tommy & Eileen
Hello and warm greetings to all members. We are just checking in to say “hello” and hope that you and your families are keeping safe and well. Adhering to safety advice is vital and the best protection for all of us. As we exit January, we look forward to the official start of spring on Monday next, 1st Feb.
We along with the Hon. Treasurer wishes to thank the 245 Members to date who have renewed their 2021 membership. Your response has been fantastic and this shows how strong we are as a club.
Tommy & Eileen
We want to check in with you dear fellow Club Member and say “hello” as a month of severe restrictions begins throughout the country in response to the continuing rapid spread of Covid-19. January will be a tough time for many families and individuals. As citizens, we each can contribute a ‘helping hand’ in this challenging period by personally complying fully with HSE regulations/guidance and by checking in as often as possible with relatives, neighbours and fellow club members.
The JMC together with Men’s and Ladies committees are continuing to have zoom meetings during this latest lockdown. We have drawn up a priority list of things we would like to get done this year, so please keep an eye out.
In the meantime best wishes for 2021 to you and your family. Stay safe.
Captains Tommy Tallon & Eileen O’ Toole
We are honoured to represent Kilcock Golf Club as Captains and assure each and every one that we will do our best to meet your golfing expectations. As members of the JMC we will be deeply involved in the JMC’s plans to offer a quality golfing and social experience to all our members.
Here at Kilcock Golf Club we have a fantastic setup with Synergy unmatched expertise and resources available to the club continuing to manage the course and the complex including bar and restaurant. Our golf course has had a lot of work done to it in the last year by the greenkeepers and our volunteers who turn up weekly to lend a hand. We are unique as a club for the dedicated volunteers who turn up every Tuesday and Thursday and work more than 2 days in total per week for the club. Their commitment to provide a first-class facility to our members is something we all treasure.
Our pro shop staffed by our Professional golfer Greg Massey and Assistant Manager Johnny Dunnican is worthy of a mention for the brilliant service and help they provide to all our members.
The final icing on the cake happened on Saturday 5th December 2020 when we had the official opening of our new restaurant which will be operated for the club by Rye River Cafe. This highly successful and popular catering business based in Kilcock town and the attractively refurbished dining room have set the club up with a food service and dining ambience to be very proud of.
We hope that all our members will support the club and continue to enjoy our great facilities.
Going forward the club is committed to ongoing improvement for the benefit and enjoyment of our members and their guests. Please keep an eye out for exciting events and initiatives in 2021.
Finally, may we wish all our members and their families a very happy new year
Captains Tommy Tallon & Eileen O’ Toole
At its first meeting on 16 December, the 2021 Joint Management Committee (JMC) decided to invite all members of the club to consider what changes and improvements they would like to see in the club and to forward these either to [email protected] or The Honorary Secretary, Kilcock Golf Club , Gallow, Kilcock, Co Meath. Written suggestions can also be left in the pro shop for the attention of the Honorary Secretary.
From Sunday 27 December the Saturday and Sunday competition will be a single 9 hole competition on each of the days. It is anticipated that this arrangement will remain in place until the early weeks of spring.
During the period of this arrangement, immediately prior to each weekend, the course staff will advise the Pro Shop if the course condition and expected weather will allow all 18 holes to be played. If all 18 holes can be played, the timesheet will then be further opened and two single 9 hole competitions will be played. Members will be advised by email of the expansion of the timesheet.
This single 9 hole competition arrangement, with the possibility of a second 9 hole course being also available, provides the best chance of having golf every weekend.
It is important to note that closure due to adverse ground / weather conditions may still be necessary in the interest of members’ safety and / or course protection.
Thank you for your understanding.
Joint Management Committee
As we approach the end of an immensely challenging year both on and off the course, it also brings an end to my year as the Men’s Captain. I would like to say how honoured I am to have captained this club, having been a member since childhood it certainly means a lot to hold the position.
I would like to thank the Men’s and Ladies committees for all their hard work and dedication – A special mention to Mick Cronin, Des Tallon, Cormac O’ Toole and Jamie Ryan on the men’s committee and Brendan Tyrrell, Eileen & Peter O Toole, Pat Barrett and Ian Dack on the JMC, also to Greg and Johnny in the pro-shop and Course maintenance staff and volunteers.
We keep in our thoughts the members we have lost and members who have lost loved ones and give their families the help and support they need.
Best wishes to Eileen O Toole and incoming Captain Tommy Tallon for the year ahead.
A final thank you to all the members for their help and support throughout the year.
Wishing you all strength and happiness over the Christmas & New Year in these challenging times.
