AGREED REPORT FROM MEETING OF THE JOINT MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE (JMC) MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY 19 OCTOBER 2021
Garrett Donnery, Synergy Golf Director, was unable to attend but sent a written report some days in advance of the meeting. One item in the report mentioned the praise for the course their marketing division is receiving in feedback from societies that booked Kilcock through the marketing company. Garrett advised that, based on such positive feedback, the club should increase its society and green fee rates for 2022 and thus increase club income. This was agreed.
Honorary Treasurer, Dominic Holmes told the meeting that the club’s financial year which ended on 30th September was a good one in which income targets were exceeded in many areas and in other areas matched or almost matched. A full set of accounts will be available 7 days prior to the AGM and at the AGM.
The meeting decided to extend the number of officers in the three clubs to whom branded clothing (e.g. jumper and polo shirt) will be provided in 2022 to honour their voluntary contribution to the club.
Seven (7) buggies from another company will be delivered to the club for use from 1st November 2021, when the contract with the current supplier (The Buggyman) finishes.
Arising from a complaint by a member against another member some weeks ago, the meeting accepted the report and recommendations following an investigation conducted on behalf of the JMC. Letters will be issued this week to the two members.
Kevin O’Connor, Course Convenor, gave a report on the work of himself and his committee. In it he detailed a number of matters concerning the course that are being considered. One of these is analysing whether we close some of the bunkers on the course. This matter regarding the bunkers is pending further to research and clarification on the impact this may have in terms of course rating and aesthetics. Members can be expected to be consulted on this matter in due course before any decision or action will be taken.
In a review of safety, the meeting decided to engage a security company to do keyholder for out of hours rather than have a club member do this work.
An ad hoc group of members was set up to investigate drainage arrangements from the car park and machinery shed in light of flooding issues after recent heavy rains.
At its next and final meeting of the year on 16th November, the JMC will consider a proposal for a ‘cabinet’ style system for 2022 in which each member of the JMC will have responsibility for a particular aspect of the club.
Truth be told, yes, there was some disappointment on Sunday evening last when our Barton Cup team did not manage to provide the perfect ending to what has been a fairy-tale-like story of success. However, any disappointment is of the passing and transient type because we all realise that, by their talents and exploits, the team has ‘broken through’ into the narrow ranks of clubs realistically very likely to win this cup. Roll on 2022.
As the venue for the final leg of this prestigious competition, Kilcock Golf Club was showcased last weekend: our course, set off by wonderful afternoon sun, was in immaculate condition, the attractiveness of the course as a golf course was clear to all, and the friendliness of our members shone out to the many Malahide visitors.
Two wonderful sights stood out for us, among many. One was the crowds walking down the elevated 15th fairway in glorious sunshine on their way to the green over the water. The second wonderful sight was the mounds of sand in the car park ready for spreading on the fairways on the following Tuesday.
As Captains, we are holding our heads high all week, so proud of our Barton Cup team, of our club and of our members.
Captains Tommy & Eileen
Sunday next, 10th October, is a historic day for the club. It is the first time that our club has reached the final of the Barton Cup. All of us in the club are very proud of our team and its managers and their achievements to date and we wish them the very best on Sunday afternoon.
Please come along, support our lads and wear the club jumper. It is important that we show support for our lads and our club as we are up against a long-established and strong golf club, Malahide.

AGREED REPORT FOLLOWING MEETING OF JOINT MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE (JMC)
Held on Tuesday 21st September 2021 (in the clubhouse)
Bernie Coleman, the recently elected Vice-Captain, was welcomed to the meeting and congratulated on her appointment.
The monthly report from Synergy Golf director Garret Donnery was discussed.
The Hon Treasurer reported that the club’s financial position is on target and that the club will return a surplus this year. The financial year ends on 30 September and the externally prepared financial statement for the year will be available at the AGM which will take place on Monday 6th December. Budgets for 2022 are currently being drafted for approval in October by the JMC.
Safety was discussed, including safety in the use of the practice area. Additional safety measures were agreed in relation to the use of the practice area.
The two Captains reported that income to date from the club’s 2021 fundraiser, the sale of green fees, amounts to €21,200. The associated draw will take place on Friday 24th September at 6pm.
Among the five sub-committees which reported back to the meeting, the IT sub-committee reported that arrangements are being made to store all the club’s documents in SharePoint which is part of Microsoft Office 365.
The requirements following the recent visit of a HSE environmental officer were discussed and agreed to be undertaken.
Further consideration will be given to producing a newsletter for members which reviews 2021 and provides as much information as possible on planned 2022 events.
The monthly report of the course sub-committee was considered and its members were thanked for their ongoing work and dedication.
The meeting agreed in principle to consider further giving each JMC member in 2022 a specific area of responsibility for which they would report to each JMC meeting.
The Barton Cup team were wished every success in the upcoming final against Malahide.
The next meeting of the JMC will be held on 19th October 2021.
On Sunday next 26th of September our Barton Cup team to travel to Malahide for the first round of the final. We wish them the best of luck and will all be shouting for them (but not on the course). We need as many members as possible to go to Malahide and give the lads your support, and if you are going why not wear a club jumper.
We are very proud of their achievements to date and look forward to the return match in Kilcock on Sunday the 10th of October.
Thanks to the greenkeeping staff for the quick turnaround of the course after the scarifying on Monday. It was great to see members out playing again on Tuesday, in particular, the ladies who had a 4 club competition that day.
This Friday evening (24th Sept) the sale of green fees draw takes place at 6 pm and you’re very welcome to come along. Following the draw, there will be a medals and prizes presentation for ladies.

Well done to the Barton Cup players and managers on their great win against New Forest in the quarter-final on Sunday evening last. The members of the team are: Jason McGivern, Rodger Quinn, Ciaran Mahon, Ian Cavanaugh, Thomas O’Brien, Mark Cavanaugh, Pat O’ Connor, David Mahon, Martin Filbert, Darren Gunning, Subs are Ross Tallon and Ross Delaney. The team is managed by Jason Corscadden and Conor Mahon.
Kilcock now meets Wicklow in the Barton Cup semi-final on Sunday next the 12th of September. Why not come down and give the team your support.
Thanks to all members who have sold green fees in our club fundraiser which ends with the grand draw at 6pm on Friday 24 Sept (just 2 weeks away). On Friday last, 3rd September, the performance was: Members who sold green fees = 208: Green Fees sold = 655: Members yet to report = 430. Income received €13,100. We ask members who have yet to report to make a special effort this week to sell the two green fees and bring money and stubs back to the pro shop. All money received in the fundraiser will be used to sand the fairways and bunkers and other improvements to our members-owned club.
We invite five male and five female members to offer their services (through the Pro shop) to draw tickets on Friday 24 Sept at 6pm in the club’s fundraiser. There are 65 prizes to be drawn so each of the (hopefully) ten club members will make six draws throughout the evening.
Thanks for all your support

KILCOCK GOLF CLUB AGREED REPORT MEETING OF JOINT MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE (JMC) HELD ON WEDNESDAY 4th AUGUST 2021
Due to holidays, the meeting of the JMC due on 20th July was deferred and held remotely on Wednesday 4th August.
Garrett Donnery, director of Synergy Golf, attended the meeting and gave a written report.
The Honorary Treasurer, Dominic Holmes, reported that July was a good month for income and that the club’s finances continue to be stable and encouraging. He told the meeting that, based on the positive response to date to the club’s 2021 fundraiser (the sale of two ball green fees for €20), it looks like the fundraiser income will be able to pay for the sanding of the full course in early October. The fundraiser ends on 24th September.
Work on the upgrade of the club’s sewerage system is due to begin on 23rd August and will take about 3 weeks.
SPECIAL SUB-COMMITTEES
Two special sub-committees were set up and both are expected to submit their report to the September meeting of the JMC on 21st September. Two places will be reserved on both sub-committees for members of the club who express an interest in the next five days in joining the sub-committees. Please give your name to the Pro shop.
Strategic Plan Sub-Committee. Ken O’Brien will chair this sub-committee which will look at all the club’s needs for the next 5 years or so.
Plan for AGM. This sub-committee will examine how the upcoming AGM in December might be organised and, in particular, how the attendance of a greater number of members might be encouraged.
PRIZES FOR COMPETITIONS
The JMC decided to move away from the issuing of physical vouchers to competition prize-winners and instead to electronically transfer the value of the prizes to the winners’ pro shop or bar/restaurant account as appropriate. For competition winners, this eliminates the chance of misplacing the physical voucher or forgetting about it. For competition Secretaries, the electronic transfer will reduce the amount of time required to issue prizes.
The meeting congratulated all team of the club and their managers on their participation in the various competitions. The JMC wished the ladies’ team every success in the regional semi-final of the Ladies’ Minor Cup and the men’s team success in the next round of the Barton Cup.
The Captains were thanked and complimented on the success of their two recent 12 hole evening competitions.
The next meeting of the JMC will be held on Tuesday 24th August.
The Captain’s Qualifier took place on the 14th/15th August after being abandoned last week due to very bad weather. The weather was much kinder to us for the second attempt. 286 members played in the competition. Judging by the 23 players that shot great scores that were under 70 the pins must have not been in those difficult positions.
Hopefully, everybody enjoyed the day, and for those who qualified for the final on Sunday, good luck. A big thanks to Jason Corscadden of Synergy Golf and the rest of the greenkeepers for the great condition they had the course in. Rye River Café provided delicious breakfast baps for the early starters and burgers and chips for the later players which went down very well.
The Barton Cup team beat Tulfarris 3-2 on Saturday the 14th of Aug. It was a very close game. Watch out for details of their next game and why not come down and give them a bit of support.
The team is managed by Jason Corscadden and Conor Mahon and thanks guys for doing a great job and well done to all the team players. The team is Jason McGivern – Rodger Quinn – Ciaran Mahon – Ian Kavanagh -Tomas O’Brien – Mark Kavanagh – Pat O’Connor – David Mahon – Martin Filbert – Darren Gunning – Ross Tallon – Ross Delaney.
Town & District Cup 2021
On Thursday 12th August, there was a shotgun start at 6.30pm for the club’s own Towns & Districts Cup. Participating teams represented Clarkestown Summerhill, Summerhill Village, Maynooth, Lucan, Leixlip, Celbridge, Palmerstown, and Castleknock. After the 70 members finished the 9 hole competition, all were treated to a really delicious pig on the spit buffet.
Lucan was the winner of the 2021 Towns & Districts Cup and the team members were Dominic & Patricia Holmes, Des, Amanda and Adam Mc Garry, Willie Kavanagh. This team won the competition in 2020 but on this occasion, their winning margin, with 78 points, was just 1 point.
The team in 2nd place was representing Maynooth and had a score of 77 points. The team consisted of Joe Mulligan, Michael O Hara, David Philips, Damien Gunning, Jason McGivern, and Eileen O Toole.
On Monday night this week, we held our 4 person team event over 9 holes commencing at 4pm. There were 48 people who participated and many of them joined us in the bar for tea/sandwiches and a chat afterward.
The next 4 person team event is Thursday 26th August and again this will be over 9 holes. The 9 and dine will be on Friday the 3rd September, we hope that you can join us at one of the above events
Captains Tommy & Eileen
Our second attempt to hold the Captain’s qualifying and Captain’s Prize to the ladies takes place this upcoming weekend, on Sat/Sun 14th/15th and Mon 16th for men and Tuesday 17th for the ladies. Let’s hope the weather is kinder to us this weekend. We very much appreciate the effort everyone made last weekend in trying to fulfill the fixture but unfortunately it was not to be.
Here is to this weekend, and we are both looking forward to seeing as many as possible out playing golf.
Walker Cup
An eight-member team represented Kilcock in the Walker Cup in Co. Meath last Friday. The competition was very stiff but the team did well, congratulations to all that played.
Barton Cup
Kilcock meets Tulfarris in the Barton Cup on Saturday 14th August in the Quarter Finals. Good luck to all the team and managers Conor Mahon and Jason Corscadden. All support for the team would be greatly appreciated as we hope to move forward in this prestigious competition.
Mixed Event
The next Mixed Team Event is on Monday 16th August. It is a 4 person team over 9 holes. The timesheet is reserved from 4pm to 6.30pm and the terms of the competition are on the BRS. We hope as many members as possible come along and join us. We will have complimentary tea and sandwiches afterward and we invite all participants in the event to avail of the refreshments.
Club Fundraiser 2021
The club’s 2021 Club Fundraiser, the sale of two green fee tickets is going well. Thanks to those members who have sold/bought two green fees and returned money and counterfoils to the pro shop. We have six weeks until the final date of the fundraiser – Friday 24th Sept. We kindly request that members with vouchers please seek to sell them and return the money and counterfoils to the pro shop as soon as convenient. If anyone needs more vouchers, please do not hesitate to contact Eileen or Tommy or the pro shop and we will gladly look after you.
