Instituted in 1900, when Dublin University won it for the first time, the Senior Cup is the most coveted trophy in club golf. Teams consist of five players in singles matchplay, off scratch. The figure on the lid is that of Fred G. Tait.
The AIG Junior Cup is an Irish inter-club golf competition that began in 1900, with the first title won by Portmarnock Golf Club. It is one of the oldest inter-club events, involving teams of five scratch players competing in single matches. The competition is sponsored by AIG (American International Group), and it involves teams from across Ireland vying for the national title.
The Barton Cup is a Leinster-based, provincial amateur golf competition for medium-handicap players, originally presented by Sir Dunbar Plunket Barton around the early 1900s to foster fellowship among golf clubs and offer more players a chance to compete. The competition has been in existence since at least 1906.
Ireland’s amateur golf legend is commemorated by the Jimmy Bruen Shield, inaugurated in 1978 when Stackstown won the first competition. Clubs are represented by five pairs, the minimum individual handicap index being 6 and the minimum combined index 17. It is a National Foursomes Competition aimed at Category 2 handicap indexes (6-12) golfers
Named after Professor Purcell, one of Ireland’s outstanding golf administrators, from the 1920s to 1960s, it was won first by Masserene, in 1970. The Pierce Purcell Shield is a national foursome competition aimed at category 3 handicap index golfers (11-17).
Introduced in 2024, replacing the Fred Perry Trophy.
Reintroduced in 2024 to replace the All Ireland Four-ball.
Golfer of the Year point are awarded for the following competitions, which can be either strokes or stableford:
Points are awarded to players who qualify for the Captain’s final day and President’s final day.
For all other GOY competitions, points are awarded to the top 100 players in each competition.
The best eight rounds by each player count towards their total.
Flexi, Student and Junior members are not eligible to win the Net GOY. However, they are eligible to compete in the Gross GOY.Where two or more players have the same total points for GOY, the winner is the player with the most points awarded in the Captains Final. If there is still a tie it is the most points awarded for the next GOY competition listed above (President’s Final) and so on until a winner is declared.

Introduced in 2024 and replaces the Provincial Towns Cup.
The JB Carr Trophy is run by Woodenbridge Golf Club, and was inaugrated in 1996 celebrating the great Irish amateur golfer, Joe Carr.
The competiton runs nationally, but is based on county boundaries in the early rounds. It is a tournament for the over 60’s.
Eligible players must be male, 40 years or older by April 1st, with a handicap index between 18 and 28. Matches are played to a finish, and the team leading the draw typically plays three matches at home and two away.

The Irish Junior Foursomes began in 1983 and since then has proved to play an important part in the development of boys golf and inter-club match play.
